No Sweat Sweatshirt in August/September 2015 Sew News

no sweat sweatshirt sew news august september 2015

This month in the August/September issue of Sew News, you’ll find my No Sweat Sweatshirt (and, for reference, I’m definitely not the one that comes up with the catchy pattern titles). It’s a loose fitting hoodie with slightly oversized hood and drop shoulders. I had some delicious french terry that I used for the fabric and thought it made for a fun detail to sew the cuffs and pocket with the loopy side out. The best part is, the pattern is free to download right now and, though you’ll need the magazine for instructions, anyone with a bit of garment sewing under their belt should be able to figure out how it fits together sans instructions :)

I can’t always wear the sample sizes for magazine articles once they come back to me, but I definitely can for this comfy loose-fitting hoodie. And, while I’m certainly not complaining about the gorgeous weather we are having,¬†all this week I’ve been looking forward to when it cools off for the evening so I can put on my hoodie :)

  1. Congratulations! Your new pattern is great timing for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere ?. I’m off to find some french terry! I’m with Annie, the use of both sides of the fabric is a great idea.

  2. I bought the digital issue of the magazine so I could have the instructions, but there are no measurement charts to determine the correct size to sew. Also, the sizes are not marked on the pattern. I assume the sizes are S, M, L, XL?

Yes, the sizes are S, M, L, XL. They should be similar to ready-to-wear sizing.
      Bust: Small = 34″, Medium = 36″, Large = 38″, X-Large = 40″

Please note that the sweatshirt is designed for sweatshirt fleeces with stretch and is fairly fitted so if you are between sizes, are using fabric without stretch, or like your sweatshirts to be loose fitting, go up a size.

And please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!
